Music at St. Agnes

I studied Music Education at the National University of Pedagogy (Bogotá, Colombia). Thereafter, I taught at several elementary, middle and high schools in Colombia until I was called to teach at the Superior School of Music in Tunja (Boyacá, Colombia). Two years later, I joined the “Baton Foundation” (a music program sponsored by the First Lady of Colombia at that time) as a teacher and administrator at one of the orchestral centers. Then, after visiting my mom here in the States, I decided to move with her and started working as a Spanish Teacher for one of the Berlitz Language Centers in Walnut Creek and through it, I taught for a year at Holy Rosary School in Antioch. At the same time and since then, I have been working to the present day for the Latino ministries at St. Bonaventure’s as a Music/Liturgy Director.

I also graduated from the Franciscan School of Theology (Berkeley) with a Masters of Arts in Multicultural Ministry in 2001 and worked for the Multicultural Institute launching and directing the Mentoring For Academic Success -MAS Program- before moving to St. Agnes.

I chose my particular field of study because besides loving every form of art and loving teaching, I believe that music is one of God’s gifts given to us, and its rhythm, melody and harmony are present in all creation.

My favorite hobbies are traveling, reading, dancing, skating, watching good movies and . . . more. My list is endless.

I am very impressed by the students at St. Agnes in a positive manner. Most of them behave so well in class and display a contagious enthusiasm and interest in the subjects I teach that I feel motivated to give them my best as a teacher.

Just a note … God’s music is played to the beat of our loving hearts!

Bell Choir

he English Handbell Choiris offered for eight to ten 5th grade students at the beginning of each school year. The choir remains for one year only. The greatest benefit of this limited number of students each year is the discipline of responsibility necessary for a good performance. Classes are held during the regular 5th grade music schedule. Handbells play in some selected liturgies, and have a part in both the Christmas and Spring program. Mrs. McDonald is our Bell Choir director.
